Helvetica, the first film about everyone’s beloved and hated typeface, has been touring the world and selling out quickly to hungry typophiles and designers.

I almost got shut out of the upcoming San Francisco screening, but due to fervent demand, a second screening was added for the same night on June 13th. As of today, only about 20 tickets are left for this screening. So if you’re in SF and fear missing the show, get tickets now.

Not in San Francisco? Check out the other screening dates to see when the films comes near you. For those unlucky to get to a screening, a DVD will be out this fall.

Here’s a short description of the film:

Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface (which is celebrating its 50th birthday this year) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives.

This week, I started my spanking new job at Dubberly Design Office. I got a fresh MacBook Pro and had multiple eyegasms while pulling off the wrappers of my new ginourmous 30-in Cinema Display. Before I get sucked into the immersive display, here’s a little Quicktime tip I’ve neglected to tell you about:

When watching Quicktime movies such as movie trailers and music videos, you might notice the volume—-even at its highest setting–just isn’t very loud.

To access a secret volume control, hold down Shift while clicking on the volume icon in the controller below the movie. A modified slider will appear, letting you increase the movie’s volume to its true resounding potential.
