I don’t have a prank or joke for you today. But, I do have a new post on the SMB Marketing Guide blog. It’s a short, but practical, guide on how to write a positioning statement. I even wrote it like a poem.

Here’s a little teaser for you:

Your product is one among millions.
With so many products, why should a customer choose yours?
Positioning answers this question.

A product’s “position” is the place it occupies
in the customer’s mind.
All products have a position–
even if it’s the position of “unfamilia” or “irrelevant to me”
or “not very good”.

Successful products are both relevant and highly ranked.
They stand out. They have a unique position.
The purpose of “positioning” is to create and articulate
what makes your product unique.

Check out the full post: How to Write a Positioning Statement.

Note: Some of the lines wraps are looking a little funky in the post. I’m working with the editors to fix it.

Cool. One of the practical things about “positioning” is that it separates you from what might be considered “your competitors”. When you two are separated, you aren’t competing any more.

The competition for a “truck” isn’t a “sports car”, even though both are motor vehicles. They are positioned in different spaces. You don’t have to feel threatened by them and can be happier.

Joe Jonas did cheat on Taylor Swift, and he was the one to end the phone call. Along with that I hate both the whole group of the Jonas Brothers, but the one I hate the most is Joe Jonas because of what I think he did. My friend’s comment is, personally I think Joe is a big international lier. He is NOT a good singer, and I’ve heard him sing live, and this big guy came out, and sounded WAY better! And Joe , on the other hand sounded like a big, fat, skunkbag! Now, we both would likw to say… Taylor does not disserve people going around saying lies about her that they got from Joe Jonas’s myspace page. If Taylor Swift gets to read this we would like to know if we could get her e-mail adress, and/or phone number… Same thing for Joe.

Dear Taylor Swift, I know it might have been a long time since the break up between you and Joe Jonas. We would really like it if we could have your phone number. WE LOVE U!!!

@Daryl: Removing competition can be a bad thing though, because it removes the whole edge of the sale. You can no longer demonstrate your value above other suppliers, which is half the reason behind most purchases!
