Windows users who are jealous of Quicksilver’s might on the Mac now have a glimmer of hope in Skylight.
Like Quicksilver, Skylight is an automation utility that lets you launch applications, find files, and execute actions with a quick series of keystrokes.
Skylight’s off to a good start, but it’s still not as robust as Quicksilver. It has a limited set of actions, no ability to create “triggers” or customized key commands, and no support for complex file manipulations. Despite its “infinite plug-in extensibility,” Skylight also has has very few plug-ins.
Of course, it’s in beta, so the future could very well be bright. But for now, that glimmer of hope for a true Quicksilver clone is just a glimmer.

Humanized makes a similar product called Enso. They also run a blog on interaction design. Coincidentally, the most recent post compares Enso to Quicksilver. They seem like smart people. Check them out.

There’s always Launchy, a Quicksilver alternative. Lifehacker has some articles written about it too.

I went to the site and was put off by the odd install procedure; there’s no way to download an exe. I’m not interested in an installer launching before I’ve had a change to examine the file.

Overall my experience was disappointing. In addition to all the features named in he article that are lacking, the search facility is also severely lacking. It will only index files particular types of files (e.g., *.txt, *.doc files). For those of us who aren’t resigned to MS Word and Textfiles, this arbitrary limitation is extremely frustrating.
Perhaps I’ll have better luck with Colibri.

SuperLauncher should be mentioned. SuperLauncher launches applications with hotkeys or one click of the mouse but the twist about it is that you add new shortcuts by drag and drop. You simlpy drag and drop applications, websites, files, or folders, and wizards guide you through adding hotkeys or one-click shortcuts.
I use it and I recommend it.
