Adobe launches Photoshop for the web

Photoshop Express

As if there aren’t enough permutations of Photoshop, Adobe’s just launched Photoshop Express. This web-based version of Photoshop enables you to quickly crop, touch-up, distort, and apply effects to any of the billions of images you’ve taken with your cam.

I haven’t delved in too deeply yet, but I’m fairly impressed with how well it handles basic photo manipulations. With the help of thumbnail previews, it’s quite easy adjust the hue, saturation, white balance, and tint of an image. And of course, it has a red-eye removal tool.

Photoshop Express, however, lacks one major feature from its big brother: the ability to composite images together. There’s no layers! This means you won’t be able to create an image of Hillary and Obama’s lovechild. You also won’t be able to see what you look like with Angelina Jolie’s lips or Brad Pitt’s chin. Which is a shame.

After all, isn’t the appeal of Photoshop its ability to create impossibile realities?

Maybe we should rename it to iPhoto Express instead of Photoshop Express?

Have you taken Photoshop Express for a spin? Do you love it or hate it?
