Looking for inspiration for your next business card design? Check out Kariann’s collection of designer business cards on Flickr.
The set has 584 business cards ranging from traditional to wacky. Most belong to individual designers and small consultancies. So it’s not a surprise that many are overdesigned and outright gimmicky. They simply stand out more than they communicate.
For example, this business card forces you to scratch it to see any contact information:

Despite my aversion to novelty cards like the one above, I admit they’re still fun to look at, mostly as good examples of what not to do. It’s easy to make a design stand out. But it’s hard to do it without upstaging the content.
Here’s more from Kariann’s Flickr set, some are more gimmicky than others:

Check out the rest here.

Or just take some mod photos, go to moo.com and make your own in about 10 minutes.

Joshua, I’m quite quite fond of Moo. I only hope they will soon offer more products such as full-sized business cards and postcards. They could easily overtake 4x6 in the self-publishing space.

There is so much of todays design that is more than impractical and waistful and I could give you more than a thousand examples within contemporary society…so your point aboutit being practical is really moot. If it comunicates to the T/Audience and they retain the card with a memory regarding the designs impact then yes, it is practical and it has a longer shelf life with the example of SuperCapacity.
There are some very nice ideas there, the peg idea is very off the wall and is something that I would employ in certain niches with great effect.
Keep the examples rolling because it is great to have free online resources that are off the shelf sometimes without having to go through the marauding process of having to sign up for such a simple thing as to view.
Thanks for sharing.
